Reclaiming Myself

A Group for Adults Abused or Neglected as Children

"If we can share our story with someone who responds with empathy and understanding, shame can't survive."
- Brene Brown

While each person's experience is different, the effects of the experience are very often the same. Many people who have experienced trauma in childhood struggle with boundaries, with feeling worthwhile, with regulating their emotions. Often people struggle with trusting others, with trusting themselves. Or they react in ways they'd rather not, and don't understand why. Maybe you know better but can't seem to translate that into your daily life. You are not alone!

Do any of these apply to you?

  • Had a narcissistic parent

  • Experienced domestic violence

  • Grew up in a volatile environment

  • Suffered neglect

  • Experienced war or a natural disaster

  • Had an alcoholic parent

  • Suffered relational or childhood trauma of any kind

If so, this is group is for you. You can explore how what happened to you is affecting you and your relationships, learn more effective ways of managing your symptoms, and have an opportunity to heal so that you can reclaim your life... and yourself. In addition to discussion, I may incorporate guided visualization, somatic exercises, parts work, and art activities. It can take time to feel comfortable in a group setting, and you can participate in the way that is most comfortable for you. It's OK not to be OK, and you are welcome to show up just as you are!

Surviving Childhood Sexual Abuse

A Group for Women Sexually Abused as Children

"Shame needs three things to grow exponentially in our lives:
secrecy, silence, and judgment."

- Brene Brown

Experiencing this kind of betrayal at an early age changes you; it's hard to trust, both others and yourself. You might have a sense that you are irreparably damaged and that everyone can somehow tell. Sometimes we tell ourselves "It wasn't that bad. I should be able to get over it." But despite our best efforts and time, the effects continue to linger in the form of relationship challenges or lack of confidence. The truth is that you are more than what has happened to you, and you CAN heal. Come join other women who have experienced sexual abuse as a child; it's time to put this behind you once and for all, and to do more than survive. You are not alone!

In this group, you can safely explore how what happened to you is affecting you and how it's affecting your relationships; you can learn more effective ways of managing your symptoms, and have an opportunity to truly heal. In addition to discussion, I may incorporate guided visualization, somatic exercises, parts work, and art activities. It can take time to feel comfortable in a group setting, and you can participate in the way that is most comfortable for you. It's OK not to be OK, and you are welcome to show up just as you are!
