EMDR THERAPY
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of therapy that helps you reprocess traumatic or impactive experiences, experiences that have shaped your beliefs about yourself such as that you are not good enough, or strong enough, or that there's something wrong with you. Often we know that these beliefs aren't true intellectually, but there's a part of us that isn't logical that still holds on to these beliefs no matter how much evidence there is to the contrary. While I use parts work and somatic therapies to heal from and dispel these beliefs, in many cases EMDR is an effective primary or adjunct approach that greatly speeds the healing process.
EMDR therapy can also be used to desensitize you or lessen the effects of phobias or the symptoms arising from single incident traumatic experiences.
EMDR involves bilateral stimulation, using either hand-movements so your eyes are moving back and forth, or the use of 'tappers' which vibrate alternating side to side. It is a well-researched, evidence-based approach, with a great deal of scientific and anecdotal data to back it up. Please see www.emdr.com and www.emdria.org for more information. I'll be happy to discuss whether EMDR would be a good fit for you.
